KU plans first 24-hour day of giving with One Day. One KU.
January 24, 2018
On Tuesday, Feb. 20, alumni and friends from all over the world will come together to support the University of Kansas for its first 24-hour giving campaign, One Day. One KU.
The day of giving will support all schools and programs on multiple campuses — from Lawrence to the Edwards Campus in Overland Park, Kansas, and all of the KU Medical Center campuses. This historic fundraising event is an opportunity for Jayhawks to show their pride by supporting the KU programs and priorities that mean the most to them.
“The university could not reach its full potential without support from donors,” Chancellor Douglas A. Girod said. “We invite Jayhawks near and far to make their voices heard in support of KU by donating to the school and unit of their choice on this special day.”
Of all the days in KU’s illustrious history, Feb. 20, 1863, has mostly gone unrecognized. But its importance is the foundation of this historic campaign. On that day, Kansas Gov. Thomas Carney signed into law a bill locating the University of Kansas in Lawrence. The bill passed the state House of Representatives by just one vote.
Some donors will be providing gift challenges and matching opportunities that day to encourage donations in specific areas that will increase the impact of each gift. There will be tables promoting the event that day at all campuses, including Wichita and Salina.
Gifts made online, by phone and in person between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. CST on Feb. 20 will count toward One Day. One KU. Visit ku.edu/onedayoneku to find out more, and to donate on Feb. 20.
KU Endowment is the independent, nonprofit organization serving as the official fundraising and fund-management organization for KU. Founded in 1891, KU Endowment was the first foundation of its kind at a U.S. public university.
