One gift at a time, friends and alumni of the University of Kansas added to the success of the second annual One Day.

At the Sept. 28 annual meeting of the KU Endowment board of trustees, the board elected David B. Dillon as chair, William R. Docking as vice chair, and two other KU alumni as trustees. Dillon succeeds Deanell Reece Tacha, who served as chair since 2014.

Alumni and friends invested $257.4 million in the University of Kansas during the 2018 fiscal year, which ended June 30, marking the second highest philanthropic giving total in the university’s history.

A gift commitment of $690,000 from University of Kansas alumnus Don Sloan will establish a scholarship fund for art history students at KU.

Chad Leat, of New York, N.Y., retired vice chairman of global banking at Citigroup and University of Kansas graduate, announced a $1 million scholarship gift commitment in support of LGBTQ students at KU during a visit this week to his alma mater.

Since the University of Kansas opened its doors 150 years ago, philanthropy has played a role in its development — indeed, its very existence.

During One Day. One KU., the university’s first 24-hour giving campaign, donors gave 1,898 gifts totaling $734,621, creating opportunities for more Jayhawks in the state, the nation and beyond.
