Celebrate March Madness at Brackfest

March 4, 2014

Just in time to celebrate March Madness, the second annual Brackfest is scheduled for March 17 at the Overland Park Convention Center. Proceeds will benefit concussion injury initiatives at The University of Kansas Hospital and KU Medical Center.

The breakfast program will include Fox 4’s John Holt moderating a panel of local sports experts, including:

  • Ted Owens, former KU men’s head basketball coach;
  • Kevin Kietzman, Sports Radio 810 WHB host;
  • Dave Armstrong, Big 12 sportscaster; and
  • Dave Robisch, a KU two-time All-American basketball player.

Also speaking will be Michael Moncure, M.D., medical director of the Center for Concussion Management at The University of Kansas Hospital. Moncure also is a professor of surgery and anesthesia at the KU School of Medicine, where he directs the Department of Trauma and Surgical Care and serves as vice-chair of education in the Department of Surgery.

The event takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., at the Overland Park Convention Center, 6000 College Blvd., Overland Park, Kan. 66211. Tickets are available at www.kuendowment.org/brackfest. For more information, please contact Burke Beeler, KU Endowment assistant vice president for donor relations at (785) 832-7443, or [email protected].

Businesses sponsoring the event include WHB 810 Sports Radio, Crown Automotive of Lawrence, AesthetiCare, Cognios Capital and the KU Alumni Association.

Brackfest is sponsored by the Advancement Board, a group of more than 80 volunteer members who advocate on behalf of the medical center and hospital, collectively known as the academic medical center. For the past eight years, the Advancement Board has promoted leadership education in patient care, research and education in Kansas City and the region.

KU Endowment is the independent, nonprofit organization serving as the official fundraising and fund-management organization for KU. Founded in 1891, KU Endowment was the first foundation of its kind at a U.S. public university. The University of Kansas Hospital is a partner in philanthropy with KU Endowment.
