Lawrence is the home of the University of Kansas. You’ll see our mascot—the Jayhawk—throughout the city. While our preferred hues are crimson and blue, you’ll find an eclectic town with a colorful scene of restaurants, boutiques, live music, art and recreation.

On campus, you can explore curated collections of art history in the Spencer Art Museum or experience our rich basketball heritage at the Booth Family Hall of Athletics. You can also visit the original rules of basketball preserved at the nearby DeBruce Center.

Adjacent to the University of Kansas is our vibrant downtown, where you may find yourself spending most of your free time. Blend in like a local when you head to “Mass” (Massachusetts Street to the uninitiated.)

There, kickstart your day with breakfast at The Roost. Shop dozens of clothing, jewelry and gift stores on both sides of the block. When it’s time for lunch or dinner, check out Wheatfields or Lawrence Beer Co. If pizza and beer are more your style, The Wheel or Big Mill are both great stops. 

For a bit of fresh air and recreation, plan to take a walk around the Baker Wetlands or rent a bike from our favorite bike shop, Sunflower Outdoor and Bike, and explore more than 21 miles of bike trails at Clinton Lake.

As day turns into night, head to the Nest on 9^th at the Oread Hotel to soak in amazing sunset views over the city. As for nightlife, sip uniquely crafted cocktails at John Brown Underground, or grab a refreshing local beer at Free State Brewery.
