Lawrence couple provide funds for overlook structure at KU's field station
A new overlook structure three miles north of Lawrence provides a spectacular view of the Kansas River valley, Lawrence and KU. Located at KU’s Field Station and Ecological Reserves, the viewing platform is the result of combined efforts of KU architecture students and Lawrence residents Dick and Sue Himes.

KU awards $29.6 million in scholarship support to students for 2008-09
More than 6,500 students at the University of Kansas will receive an estimated $29.6 million in privately funded scholarship support during the 2008-09 academic year. This represents a $1.9 million increase over the 2007-08 academic year, in which KU students received $27.7 million in scholarships, fellowships and awards.

New gifts benefit KU faculty in public administration and architectural engineering
Faculty at the University of Kansas made such a positive impression on Jerry Smith of Norman, Okla., that he and his wife, Lee, decided to give back. The Smiths have created a $30,000 faculty fund and a $10,000 gift annuity for the Department of Public Administration. They also established a $10,000 gift annuity for faculty development in architectural engineering.

KU Endowment to match 5,000th gift made online
Doubling a gift to the University of Kansas has never been easier. Nearly 5,000 online donations have been made to the university via KU Endowment. To celebrate this milestone, when a donor makes the 5,000th online gift at kuendowment.org, KU Endowment will match it up to $500. The match will support the same purpose as the donor’s designated gift.

Multi-million dollar grant to advance medical innovations in life sciences
The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation today announced an $8.1 million grant to the University of Kansas to establish the Institute for Advancing Medical Innovation, a unique life science proof-of-concept model that draws support from higher education, philanthropy and industry experts to move medical innovations from the lab to the market. To enhance the impact of the Kauffman Foundation’s support, the Kansas University Endowment Association will match the grant through contributions from other donors.

Alumnus leaves $200,000 bequest for KU voice scholarships
A $200,000 bequest from 1950 University of Kansas alumnus Frank Heckendorn honors a longtime KU professor and will benefit generations of KU women who study voice.

Garden city man plans estate gift for Marching Jayhawks
Distance is no barrier to Alan Riedel’s love for the Marching Jayhawks. The Garden City resident has no formal ties to the University of Kansas and lives 350 miles from Lawrence, but he’s such a great fan that he has made estate plans to leave $200,000 to the marching band’s endowment fund.

New KU scholarships will benefit students from Wyandotte County and Topeka
Grateful parents of two University of Kansas graduates have given $550,000 for two scholarships at KU. The scholarships will benefit engineering students from Wyandotte County and students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences from Topeka.

KU Department of Pediatrics Receives $12,600
The University of Kansas Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics received a $12,600 gift today from the Kirse family and the Shawnee Mission/Kansas City Delta Delta Delta Alumnae Association.
